Republican state Sen. Gilbert Baker of Conway says not to read too much into a chat he was seen having today with GOP operative Clint Reed in the hallway outside the Senate chamber.

A new Web  site purports to draft Baker to challenge  incumbent Democrat Blanche Lincoln next year in her run for re-election to a third U.S. Senate term.

Baker, co-chairman of the legislative Joint Budget Committee, says he has “too much to do between now and the end of the legislative session” to be thinking about future political plans.  

Reed is a former state GOP executive director and was a high-ranking campaign operative for U.S. Sen. John McCain’s presidential run last year. Baker says Reed is back in Arkansas doing some lobbying. 

The senator did not reveal the nature of his conversation with the veteran Republican political campaigner.
