Petrus considering run for state Senate
Former House Speaker Benny Petrus is considering getting back into politics.
The Democrat from Stuttgart tells the Arkansas News Bureau he may run next year for the District 28 Senate seat now held by term-limited Sen. Bobby Glover, D-Carlisle.
“I going to sit down with my family and we’re going to make a collective decision sometime between now and Aug. 1,” Petrus said.
Cabot Mayor Eddie Joe Williams, a Republican, said previously he will run for Glover’s seat.
Petrus, a farmer and auto dealer, said Wednesday he has several issues to weigh, including family concerns and turmoil in the auto industry.
“We’re going to make sure we’re on the right track for our family first. That’s coming before politics, that’s for sure, with me,” he said.
Petrus served in the state House from 2003 to 2009 and served as speaker for the last two years of his tenure.
