Ex-judge Griffen returns to pulpit
Wendell Griffen is returning to the pulpit.
The outspoken former Arkansas Court of Appeals judge and ex-pastor of Little Rock’s Emmanuel Baptist Church has been elected charter pastor of New Millennium Church of Little Rock. He is scheduled to deliver the sermon at the new church’s inaugural worship service Sunday at Lake Shore Drive Baptist Church in Little Rock.
During his 12-year tenure on the bench, Griffen won several freedom of speech run-ins with the state commission that disciplines judges, which perceived his scathing public criticisms of the Bush administration and the University of Arkansas, among others, as not befitting a judge.
Griffen failed in two bids for the state Supreme Court before losing his appeals court seat last year.
