Ross says no to reviving weapons ban
Mike Ross to Obama: Don’t bring back the assault weapons ban.
The 4th District congressman says he doesn’t like what he’s hearing from Attorney General Eric Holder indicating the Obama administration plans to seek reinstatement of the ban that expired in 2004:
Says Ross: “Let me be clear: I will oppose any action on behalf of the Attorney General or President Obama to reinstate the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004. Numerous studies have demonstrated the assault weapons ban is not an effective tool to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. Reinstating this ban would be a direct infringement on the Second Amendment right of law-abiding American citizens. I will join other pro-gun members of Congress in opposing such attempts to ban firearms.”
The Federal Assault Weapons Ban was part of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act signed into law in 1994. The act defined an assault weapon to include numerous models of semi-automatic firearms that fire one shot each time the trigger is pulled. The law had a ten-year sunset provision.
Ross says firearms are an important means of self-defense, and an important part of his way of life as an avid hunter and outdoorsmen. The congressman says he’s a life member of the National Rifle Association and will continue to fight any efforts in Washington to restrict the right to own and bear arms.
