Highway details
Republican state House member Donna Hutchinson of Bella Vista wants state highway officials to provide lawmakers with a laundry list of road statistics before every legislative session.
To make it so, Hutchinson pre-filed legislation today for the upcoming General Assembly.
Among the required information: Location of the most congested routes, most dangerous transportation areas and the number of miles of state highways in each section of the state, right down to how much in state and federal dollars the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department spends per person in each congressional and state highway commission district.
Hutchinson’s soon-to-be House colleague, Jonathan Barnett of Siloam Springs, is finishing up 10 years on the state Highway Commission and has made known his intention to make the $200 million Bella Vista bypass and highway improvements in general among his top priorities in the Legislature.
