Novelty tags for Cold War vets
Rep. Johnny Key wants the Legislature to authorize special license plates for military personnel who served during the Cold War.
The Republican senator-to-be from Mountain Home pre-filed a bill for the upcoming regular session today that would add the special plate to the list of novelty tags already allowed by the state.
The “Cold War veteran” designation would cover any current or former member of the United States armed forces who has received a Cold War Recognition Certificate from the U.S. Defense secretary for service during the Cold War era — from Sept. 2, 1945, through Dec. 26, 1991.
Also today, state Sen. Bobby Glover pre-filed a proposed constitutional amendment that would increase from two years to four the terms of county officials. The Carlisle Democrat’s proposal also would bar elected county officials from vying for seats in the Legislature unless they are in the final year of their term and not seeking re-election.
