I've been a part-time student at the U of A since 2002, and I can tell you that there are fewer and fewer places every year for students to park except on the edges of the campus where you are forced to ride a bus. They have given most of the student parking that was close to the campus buildings to faculty or have built on them. The U of A is using the tickets as a major source of income and are trying to force the students to park in the new parking garage to help pay for it. It's also almost impossible to overturn a ticket, and the Ticket Office personnel are known as the 'Gestapo' by some students. I have watched them at Sylas Hunt Hall parking meters waiting for someone's time to run out so they could write them a ticket. I don't mind walking, but it's riduculous.

I've been a part-time student at the U of A since 2002, and I can tell you that the student parking spaces have continued to dwindle every year. Oh, sure, there's the bus, and plenty of parking on the edge of campus on Lot 56 by Sixth Street, but you HAVE to take a bus then. I haven't rode a bus in a while because IT TAKES TOO LONG! The U of A is using the tickets as a major source of revenue. It's also almost impossible to get a ticket overturned. I get off of work at 6 am and can't find a close parking space. I have to park off of Leverett Street because they gave 1/2 of the student parking by Bell Engineering and the radio station to the faculty. The rest is filled up by frat people.

Gearhart should understand that we know we need to observe parking regulations, but we CAN'T. It's impossible to park legally when every single legal parking space is full by 8:00 each morning. Gearhart knows that. When he lets the UA sell twice as many permits as there are spaces, he can't expect us to follow impossible regulations.
